The opportunity: 

The Uphold Compliance Partner Manager (the, “Manager”) will be leading and managing various Compliance aspects of Uphold’s work and joint projects with external partners.  This may include managing the on-boarding of new partnerships, and assisting in the design of Compliance processes and controls applicable to these partnerships. The role will also include involvement in partner audits, monitoring Compliance aspects of the partnerships as they (and regulatory requirements) evolve, and other related projects.

You will often work across Compliance, Legal, Product, Engineering teams, and have frequent interaction with industry leading Fintech partners.

What you’ll be doing primarily:

  • Lead Uphold’s partner compliance program strategy and its implementation, and help build products that meet our compliance and regulatory obligations  
  • Act as primary contact for cross-functional partners and cross-functional environments; become the Compliance leader for Uphold’s business partner ecosystem 
  • Conduct compliance program gap analyses, execute in-depth partner AML/KYP audits, and manage compliance technology integrations and testing
  • Perform tasks related to Uphold partner and business customer on-boarding using Customer Due Diligence (CDD), Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), Know-Your-Partner (KYP) and strategies as well as sound judgment and decision-making 
  • Liaise between Uphold senior management, Business Development, Engineering, Product, Legal, Operations, and Information Security teams to ensure adherence and compliance with policies and procedures
  • Evaluate new and existing product flows to proactively identify gaps or conflicts in processes, technological deficiencies, develop solutions, and create proposals for Risk Committee
  • Design, document and implement compliance technology processes and control tests
  • Assist the U.S. Compliance Department with special projects projects

Required qualifications:

  • BA/BS or equivalent, advanced degree preferred 
  • At least five (5) years of financial services industry experience, with knowledge of  regulatory compliance (KYC, AML, etc.) standards, preferably at a top-tier bank, Big 4 consulting firm, or a high-growth FinTech company
  • Working (or more advanced) knowledge of Fintech product design and engineering processes
  • Strong knowledge of AML/OFAC, Bank Secrecy Act, USA PATRIOT Act on-boarding requirements and FinCEN Customer Identification Program (CIP) Guidance
  • Experience in technology risk management, program management, operational risk, or equivalent
  • Advanced research skills and a passion for finding solutions to complex business problems with a risk-mitigation mindset
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a high-pressure environment
  • Strong quality, delivery and customer service orientation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Excellent organizational, time management and prioritization skills with a sense of urgency
  • Must have a happy disposition and great attitude; be a self-starter and work well within a global, multi-cultural team

Bonus if you have:

  • Advanced degree (MBA, MSc.) 
  • Engineering or product design experience
  • Prior experience working at a startup in FinTech/Crypto
  • Availability for occasional work outside normal business hours
  • Advanced data science skills, coding, or other computer  languages
